Madam, - I left Dublin for London in 1954 but visit Ireland three or four times a year and read The Irish Times regularly. Over 50 years I have seen many changes.
The traffic problems are like those of any other major city and are far from being solved. It is sad that Dublin is the only major European capital in Europe with neither an underground nor an opera house. It also lacks a central cultural focus.
I have heard the suggestion that the Abbey Theatre might be relocated to the General Post Office. The site might be better used as a centre of culture with both a national opera house and national theatre together. - Yours, etc,
