Donegal bereaved lead way forward

Madam, – What a wonderful example the bereaved families in Donegal have set for us.

In the midst of multiple personal tragedies, they have explicitly made it known that they do not “blame” anyone for the awful accident that took the lives of their loved ones.

If only we could apply this example to the economic situation of this country. We have become consumed with placing blame and seeking “retribution”, as one of your staff recently described it on television. In truth, if blame is to be attributed, then it is we the people, who are to blame. We the people, elected this Government, which in turn appointed the regulators, governors and public servants, who failed us.

And it is only we the people, who can rectify the situation.

It is time to put blame behind us, just as those sadly bereaved families in Donegal have done. It is time to look to the future, to start identifying opportunities for employment, to start rewarding creativity. If there is to be any “retribution” let it be political, or in the case of laws being broken, whether commercial or criminal, through our judicial system. Rather than wallowing in a blame culture, it is time to move on and establish a creative economy, not just a smart one! – Yours, etc,
