Sir, - While agreeing wholeheartedly with Alex Sullivan's opinion (July 6th) of the offensive dog dirt in Sandycove, I take issue with his suggestion that dog owners should deposit their pets' mess in a plastic bag. Just when the country is realising how damaging plastic bags are to the environment and are willing to accept a 10p levy on them, Mr Sullivan suggests a beneficial use.
A "greener" approach might be for dog-owners to bring a sheet of newspaper - preferably one of the wasteful Sunday broadsheets - with them when walking the dog. - Yours, etc.,
