Sir, - I am relieved to hear that there was a good reason for Cardinal (then archbishop) Desmond Connell's outright snub to the Theological Society of TCD in 1994. As auditor, I had cordially extended an invitation to Dr Connell to attend the society's presidential meeting. The absence of even a rudimentary declination seemed surprising at the time, but now that I know of the great wrongs perpetrated by TCD against Dr Connell, I can relax in the knowledge that he was simply acting as a true Christian: getting his own back . . . - Yours, etc.,
