Sir, - We owe a profound thank you to the yachtsman whose vigilance triggered the capture of the "Sea Mist", a vessel designed for innocent pleasure but now put to infernal uses. Would it be appropriate to reverse the process, confiscate the ship and place it at the disposal of the people of Cork?

For a modest charge they and especially the victims of drugs and their families, could enjoy the beauties of their harbour and world class coastline. Indeed, could some of the reformed addicts be trained to man the vessel and be living witnesses that there is more to life than the false succour conjured up by drugs? A little job creation, and a big boost to morale. And the delicious thought - largely at the expense of the reptiles of this earth.

Incidentally, while it may be acceptable for those charged with drug dealing to shade their face from a press photographer (Irish Times, October 2nd), I believe those convicted of dealing should be prevented from stealing from the store of public concern.

Yours, etc.,
