Madam, – There may well be a simple solution to the Government’s difficulties about honouring its election promise to remove from State boards those people who were appointed with indecent haste by the former government prior to it being kicked into the undergrowth of Irish politics (Home News, April 14th).

Pass a law to make all such positions a “civic duty” with no payments of any kind (not even “expenses”). Those who wish to do some service will remain and do so while the money-grubbers will run for the hills post haste. There is always a way, providing there is a will. – Yours, etc,
