Madam, – The latest report from the Revenue showed the amazing amount of tax-defaulting that takes place in this State. I believe the €600 million is no way near the actual total, as the Revenue only pursues the cases where it is confident of a good return.
It beggars belief what the return would be if it had the resources to check every citizen. The Revenue has lost a lot of staff through early retirement.
Surely this is one section of the State where recruitment would be justified and cost effective? – Yours, etc,
