Madam, - Once again we hear indignant and outraged spouting about work and pay conditions in the civil service (Letters, June 14th).

The vast majority of civil servants are paid a pittance for their labours. Only today I was talking to a colleague who might avail of parental leave. After 11 years' service, and taking one half-day unpaid parental leave per week, that colleague will qualify for family income supplement. Hardly a wage to write home about, let alone adequate to raise a family. - Yours, etc.,
