Christmas cards from Oireachtas

Madam, - The Christmas silly season has truly begun

Madam, - The Christmas silly season has truly begun. This morning we received our first Christmas cards - from local Fianna Fáil TD Martin Brady.

Mr Brady also saw fit to send cards to two previous residents at this address, neither of whom has lived here for over five years. The cards were addressed to "The Carson Family", "The Lawlor Family", "The Byrne Family" and "The Brady Family". Does Mr Brady think four families can squeeze into a two-bedroom house?

All of these cards were sent in Oireachtas envelopes. In other words the Irish taxpayer is paying for a Fianna Fáil TD's Christmas card mail-out.

Why? If the point of this exercise is to curry favour with his constituents, Mr Brady has failed. We will not be voting for him at the next election.

These cards constitute a waste of paper and natural resources, not to mention Mr Brady's staff's time and energy. Have Mr Brady and his staff not got more pressing work to attend to?

His cards have now been consigned to the appropriate place - the recycling bin. - Yours, etc,

LIAM CARSON and NIAMH LAWLOR, Bettyglen, Raheny, Dublin 5.
