Madam, - Let me publicly apologise to Vincent Browne for all the nasty things I have said about him as a journalist and broadcaster. In his column of March 16th, in one simple paragraph he has written the historical experience of the Jewish people in Europe for the past 2,000 years.

He quotes the words from Matthew, "His blood be upon us and upon our children", and then he writes: "The latter quote has been the spur of anti-Semitism for thousands of years and one of the poisons that infected the well of a civilisation that ordained the Holocaust".

It is, I believe, more than a coincidence - perhaps divine inspiration - that this was written on the same day that you reported on the opening of the new Holocaust museum in Israel. How perfectly Mr Browne's words accompanies the words of Israel's prime minister: "The state of Israel is the only place in the world where Jews have the right and the strength to defend themselves by themselves. It is our only guarantee that the Jewish people will never again know the Holocaust".

If anyone of your readers really wants to understand the enormity of Mr Browne's words I recommend that they get a copy of Unholy War by David Kertzer. - Yours, etc.,
