Madam, - Charity appeals are falling around us like snow - from our daily papers, magazines, church bulletins, TV and letter-boxes.

What do people feel about this? Guilty? Angry? Put off? Fed up? Sorry for the rain forests? Are they throwing the stuff in the bin along with the secular advertisements, without even reading the messages?

Most of us include a charity donation in our Christmas planning. Those who do not intend to will use their waste bins more rapidly.

Certainly the charities need to get themselves publicised. But can there not be more sophisticated planning of advertising to avoid excessive demand, public saturation and shut-down? - Yours, etc,
