Madam, - May I express my total support for the sentiments expressed on June 16th by Jean Somers, co-ordinator of the Debt and Development Coalition?

Iraq is undoubtedly worthy of cancellation of its debt. However, the plight of other less prominent and poorer countries is consistently ignored.

Jean Somers mentions some such as Senegal, Mali, Niger and Gambia. These are a few of the countries shunned by bodies like G8, countries outside the sphere of political influence.

Fortunately the crack she mentions is beginning to appear in G8's united opposition to debt cancellation in the poorest countries. Let us fervently hope that it widens rapidly into a thoroughfare through which relief and justice can flow and spread unimpeded once and for all. - Yours, etc.,
