Brighter cyclists

Sir, – Kevin McPartlan makes an interesting point regarding the ever-increasing power of bicycle lights (February 12th). While I sympathise with his argument, perhaps it would be more insightful to consider why this is the case. Perhaps when more drivers actually pay attention to their surroundings, cyclists will be able safely to exercise restraint. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – We need more cyclists to “light up” to a greater degree. I do not believe that a cyclist can be “too bright” in the interests of safety. Too many cyclists have no lights or use lights with batteries so weak that they are rendered virtually invisible. Cyclists need to replace batteries regularly. These new bright LED lights are a fantastic contribution towards safety. – Yours, etc,
