Sir, – Susan McKay is to be congratulated for her insightful piece (Opinion, August 24th) regarding Julian Assange’s cynical attempt to confuse the issue of his refusal to co-operate with the Swedish authorities (regarding sexual allegations by some women against him) with his own allegation that the US will try to extradite him over his WikiLeaks activities. Mr Assange has made a career out of standing up for justice, human rights, and uncovering the lies that our politicians spin us. But by seeking and receiving asylum in the Ecuadorean embassy in London isn’t he therefore being completely hypocritical when he dismisses the rights of these women to have their allegations answered by him? A clear case of practice what I preach, not what I do. – Yours, etc,
