Sir, - With regard to the Archer's Garage affair, there is at present creeping into the public press a statement that the building which has been demolished was the first in Ireland to be built in reinforced concrete.

Lest this impression should become enshrined by default in the folklore of Irish building, it must be said quite firmly that it is simply not true.

There were already countless reinforced concrete buildings in Ireland in the late 1940s, with some of these dating back certainly to the first decade of the century.

This does not in any way lessen the proper demand, which is at present being made on various grounds, that a replica of the demolished building, as faithful as possible, should now be built on the same site to replace it. - Yours, etc.
