All change on Good Friday

Sir, – It is a positive development that this Easter Saturday I expect to see no newspaper articles about confused and disappointed tourists struggling to find somewhere to eat and drink and locals having to explain to them why Ireland has such laws in the 21st century.

Another small step for humanity, tolerance and normality that we can celebrate – in a pub if we so wish. – Yours, etc,

ANDREW DOYLE,

Bandon, Co Cork.

Sir, – I tried to use my local post office on Good Friday. It was closed.

However I was able to call into the pub on the way home and assuage my anger with drink. Is this a peculiarly Irish way of ordering the affairs of life? – Yours, etc,

JOHN O’CONNELL,

Blackrock, Co Dublin.
