Sir, - Following the Irishman's Diary of October 16th, I would like to assure Mr Myers that Aer Lingus is not the worst timekeeper around; this title, I feel, should go to the Italian national carrier, Alitalia. I am obliged to fly with this airline for most of my travelling within and outside of Italy, and I have never been on a flight that has left even within 15 minutes of its scheduled take off time.

Departure times simply mean boarding times, and experienced passengers have come to take this as normal practice. The difference with Alitalia is that it always makes up for lost time, or the flight schedules take account of these delays. More often than not, they always seem to land on time, thus giving one the possibility to organise connecting flights, meetings or dinner at home! - Yours, etc..
