Madam, - Dónall O'Keeffe of Drinks Industry Group of Ireland (March 30th) quotes from an Oireachtas committee report that there is "no causal link between the level of overall alcohol consumption and advertising". Common sense would tell us that advertising affects the attitudes of the intended audience.

As a concerned parent, I must ask Mr O'Keeffe why on earth the drinks industry spends so much money on advertising and sports sponsorship if this isn't. Am I being cynical to suggest that there are vested interests at play all around? - Yours, etc,
