A question for census-takers?

Madam, – An enumerator brought our census form the other day

Madam, – An enumerator brought our census form the other day. While filling certain details, he asked whether I wanted the census form in English or Irish. I couldn’t resist the temptation to ask him how many people have requested the Irish version. He told me he had given the forms to 200 houses so far, and that only two people had asked for the form in Irish.

Yes, the compulsory Irish policy has been a huge success. – Yours, etc,
