Why does it have to have purpose or significance? Do none of these objectors have ornaments in their houses or ever wear jewellery? What about Geneva, adorned by its spectacular Jet d'Eau?

Can people not appreciate the Spire as art? Are we living in a country where art still has to be an actual representation of something? Where music has to have a hummable tune? Have Mondrian, Pollack, Schoenberg and Cage simply not happened?
