A licence to rob

Madam, - A few days before Christmas, my handbag was stolen

Madam, - A few days before Christmas, my handbag was stolen. Among the items it contained were my house keys and my driving licence. But for the new rule whereby I am now required to carry my licence every time I drive a car, the thief would not have had access to my residence and I would not have had the extra expense and worry of changing house locks.

As this new rule does not appear to serve any useful purpose, I would ask the Minister for Transport, on behalf of hundreds like me, to revert to the old policy of handing in one's licence, when required, to the nearest Garda station. This much more sensible approach still applies in the UK. - Yours, etc.,
