Madam, – Have we really become so degenerate a people as to accept a proposal to build the potentially innovative 21st-century Abbey Theatre behind the 19th-century GPO facade, the authentic symbol of 20th-century insurrection?
The proposal not alone insults the 1916 signatories but means the theatre would be hidden behind a leading aspect of our national heritage, the GPO facade.
What has become of the OPW proposal initiated by the Government in 2008 to redevelop the GPO as a venue for all citizens, as an alternative to the then city council-approved proposal for it to become a mere shopping mall?
