Suffering of women and children in Gaza

An urgent peace settlement is a humanitarian imperative

Letter of the Day

Sir, – The Irish Countrywomen’s Association, with over 6,000 members throughout the Republic of Ireland, asks for an urgent peace settlement to alleviate the suffering of women and children in Gaza.

We cannot stand by and not abhor the humanitarian crisis and pending famine in Gaza.

Mothers and children have been made homeless, displaced, starved and killed.

We appreciate the complexity of the situation and if an immediate pause cannot be achieved, we believe negotiations for peace must continue. Only a total end to the war is merited and will help protect innocent women and children from further terror and trauma. Unnecessary suffering is being endured and we as women in Ireland say it must stop now.

This is not a political stance by the ICA, which is non-political organisation. It is a humanitarian imperative. It is women speaking for women. – Yours, etc,
