Éamon de Valera and ‘Rebellion’

Sir, – The portrayal of Éamon de Valera in RTÉs Rebellion was an affront.

Although it is a work of fiction, it was inappropriate to include historically inaccurate information referring to a named individual. In the final episode, Éamon de Valera was shown vomiting as he faced a British firing squad. How could this have been as his initial death sentence was subsequently commuted to penal servitude for life? We would do well to remember that this man was our former taoiseach and elected head of state. He is deserving of respect and accurate historical representation. – Yours, etc,

SIOBHAN de PAOR,
