A youth whose life was under threat had cannabis hidden inside an egg in an attempt to transport a drug into a detention centre for young offenders, a court has been told.

Garda Wayne Eustace told Judge Ann Ryan at the Children’s Court that the then 16-year-old boy was found at a spot where drugs were thrown into St Patrick’s Institution, attached to the Mountjoy Prison complex, in October 2009.

Judge Ryan applied the Probation Offenders Act, sparing him a conviction and a penalty for the offence.
