Yemeni authorities have arrested 10 suspects for allegedly plotting to attack the US embassy in the capital Sanaa, a senior Yemeni official said today.

The official said explosives and maps of the embassy and surrounding buildings were found with the suspects, who he said belonged to the same militant group believed to have carried out last year's bomb attack on a US warship in Aden which killed 17 US sailors.

The suspects in custody are believed to have been planning to attack the US embassy in Sanaa, said the official, who asked not to be identified.

The US has withdrawn investigators working on the attack on the USS Colelast October.
