The crew of a yacht travelling to Greenland were rescued yesterday evening off the Irish after getting into difficulty in bad weather.

The 40 ft Fleur, which was coming from Falmouth, Cornwall got into trouble 300 miles off the coast of Donegal after experiencing storm force 11 winds and waves of 20 to 30 feet.

The three people on board decided to abandon ship.

A fixed wing aircraft was sent out from Baldonnell, while mayday calls were sent from Malin Head and Falmouth.

The crew were rescued by a tanker and transferred onto it after 9pm.

The three are said to be unhurt and are on board the tanker, which is heading for Portland Maine and due to arrive there on May 8th.
