EgyptAir: Passengers include Egyptians, French and a Briton

Egypt's Aviation ministry said 30 Egyptians, 15 French, one Briton and a Belgian were among the 66 people on board an EgyptAir flight that went missing en route from Paris to Cairo on Thursday.

The plane went missing over the Mediterranean with 66 passengers and crew on board. Egyptian aviation officials said the plane had crashed.

Egyptian armed forces are searching for the plane, which was carrying 56 passengers, including one child and two babies, and 10 crew.

A spokesman for the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs said they were not aware of any Irish citizens involved in the incident.

Egyptair confirmed there were two Iraqis on the plane and one passenger from each of the following countries: Sudan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Chad, Portugal and Canada.

There are no reports that Irish nationals were on the plane.

Airline and Egyptian aviation officials said earlier they believed the Airbus A320 had crashed into the sea.

The airline has provided free number for families concerned for relatives to contact.
