Workers at a waste collection service in Co Tipperary are to stage a march today in protest over a proposed 49 per cent pay cut.

Siptu members employed by the Mr Binman company are planning their protest at the company's depot outside Carrick-on=Suir from which workers will march into the town.

Mr Binman carries out domestic and commercial waste collection in Cos Waterford, Tipperary, Limerick and Kilkenny.

Siptu says the company has refused to negotiate or to enter talks at the Labour Relations Commission during the seven week official dispute.

“The decision to strike and protest has not been taken lightly”, Siptu branchorganiser Davy Lane said. “Mr Binman has tried to slash wages while increasing the hours of our members working week. All we seek is a fair days pay for a fair days work."
