England coach Clive Woodward has ruled out a complaint to the International Rugby Board (IRB) over referee Andre Watson's handling of the World Cup final, the Rugby Football Union (RFU) said on Friday.

The announcement comes after media speculation that Woodward planned to complain about the series of penalties imposed on his team by the South African referee during Saturday's final in which England beat Australia 20-17.

One of the controversial decisions led to the last-minute Australian penalty that forced the already dramatic game into extra time at 14-14.

"I have not written to the IRB over Andre's officiating of the RWC final last Saturday," Woodward said in statement on the RFU website.

"I have only had one brief post-match conversation with Andre at the IRB awards dinner last Sunday and we didn't discuss the match in any detail.

"I can also confirm that I have no plans to write a letter to the IRB on this matter," he added.
