The 25-year-old woman who died after her clothing caught fire in a house in Cork earlier today has been named as Maeve O'Shea.

Ms O'Shea, with an address at Newstreet in Newmarket, died in the tragic incident which happened at the home of her relatives shortly before 3.30 a.m.

It is understood the woman was attempting to light a cigarette from a gas fire when part of her clothing and hair caught fire.

She was taken to Cork University Hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later. Ms O'Shea was a nurse and worked at the same hospital.
