A Limerick woman in her 50s was struck in the head by several shotgun pellets when she opened an upstairs window at her home in the early hours of yesterday morning. Ms Kathleen Crawford was taken by ambulance to Limerick Regional Hospital, where her injuries were said not to be life-threatening.

Gardai have not established a motive for what they said was "a serious assault". The incident took place at 1.10 a.m. at a house in Whitecross Gardens, Moyross. Two men escaped in a red Toyota Carina Mark II which was later found burnt out less than a mile away.
