A postmortem is expected to be carried out tomorrow on the body of a young mother who was found dead in a house in Carlow town this afternoon.

The woman, in her late 20s, was found dead in the bathroom of a rented house at Ardmore Gardens at around 1.30pm.

A man (23), who was at the house when emergency services arrived, has been taken to St Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny where he is being treated for minor injuries.

The woman's five-year-old son was taken to the same hospital but was released shortly afterwards. He is now being cared for by relatives.

The Garda Technical Bureau is on the scene.

The Deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis is carrying out a preliminary examination of the woman's body, which is expected to be brought to the City Morgue at Marino in Dublin tonight for a postmortem tomorrow.
