Woman released over double murder

A woman arrested in connection with a double murder in Dublin last month has been released from custody without charge.

A woman arrested in connection with a double murder in Dublin last month has been released from custody without charge.

The woman was being held at Sundrive Road Garda station  in connection with the fatal shootings of Brian Downes (40) from Tallaght and Eddie Ward (24) from Clondalkin.

They  were shot dead at Mr Downes's mother's home in Walkinstown on October 5th.

Gardaí believe Mr Downes, who was questioned over the vehicle used in gangland-style murder in 2005, was the target of the shooting. They believe Mr Ward was caught up in the attack when the killer struck.

Gardaí said the gun attack was elaborately planned and carried out by an experienced gunman.

A man is still being held at Crumlin Garda station in connection with the murders.
