MONROVIA - The UN Development Programme Africa director, Ms Ellen Johnson- Sirleaf, has entered the race for Liberia's presidential election on May 30th, offering a feminine alternative to the men behind seven years of civil war.

After winning the nomination of the newly formed Unity Party on Saturday, Ms Sirleaf said that she had resigned her post with the UN. Her opponents will include Mr Charles Taylor, the man who launched the war in December, 1989, and rival faction leader, Mr Alhaji Kromah.
