Woman killed in west Cork crash

A woman in her 30s has died in a car crash in west Cork early this morning.

A woman in her 30s has died in a car crash in west Cork early this morning.

She was a passenger in a car involved in single-vehicle collision at about 2.30am at Manch on the main Bandon to Dunmanway Road.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver of the car, a man, was taken to Cork University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The road has been closed and diversions put in place to allow a Garda forensic crash investigator examine the scene.

Meanwhile Gardai in Cork city have appealed for witnesses to a collision in which an 82 year old female pedestrian received fatal injuries.

Thw woman was struck by a car on Melbourne Road in Bishopstown last Tuesday, December 18th and taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital. She died at the hospital on Saturday evening and gardaí have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them at Togher Garda station on 021 -4947120.

A total of 156 people died on the roads this year up to December 20th, according to Garda figures. This compares to 177 people in the same period the previous year.
