KINGSTON - A Jamaican rape trial resumed with a new judge and jury yesterday after women's groups reacted with horror to the previous judge's decision to jail the plaintiff for mumbling during her testimony.

The Supreme Court justice grew frustrated with the 22-year-old woman's failure to speak clearly when she testified against the man she said had raped her. He ordered the woman to spend the night in prison, while sending the defendant home on bail.
