A 58-year-old South African was detained after the discovery of the drugs in luggage aboard a flight from Johannesburg.

A Garda spokesman said: "As part of a joint operation involving the Garda National Drugs Unit and Irish Customs, targeting drugs importation from West African and East European areas, a significant seizure was made today, with the assistance of the Garda National Immigration Bureau."

Around 15.66 kgs cannabis resin was taken away for forensic analysis.
