Gardaí investigating the death of a woman in Dublin city centre at the weekend have appealed to a woman in her 20s to contact them.

The victim (51) was involved in an altercation outside Enzo's fast food takeaway on Parnell Street at 3.20am yesterday morning.

She was found dead in a flat at Liberty House on Railway Street yesterday evening at about 7pm.

The dead woman, named locally as Phyllis Black, was found dead by a relative who was concerned over her whereabouts when she had not made contact all day.

Gardai believe that in the early hours of Sunday morning, Ms Black got into a fight with another woman on the footpath outside a chip shop - where she either fell or got knocked to the ground and banged her head.

A Garda spokesman said a group entered the takeaway at about 3.15am. They left and stood outside the premises and at that point a female member of the group became involved in an altercation with another woman who had been in the takeaway.

It is understood she went to the Mater Hospital, but left in a taxi before any treatment.

Gardaí are keen to speak to a woman in her 20s who was part of the group. The spokesman said she was wearing a dark jacket, a black mini-skirt and tights and carrying a black shoulder bag.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Store Street Garda station on 01 6668000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666111 or any Garda station.
