A female pedestrian is in a critical condition in hospital this evening after she was struck by a van in the city centre earlier today.

The woman (40) suffered serious head injuries when she was hit by a white Ford transit van on Parnell Street at around 7am.

She was taken to the Mater Hospital where her condition has been described as critical. The van also collided with a car in the incident.

Gardai have appealed for witnesses to the incident to contact them at Store Street Garda Station on 01 666 8000.
