Wolverhampton 2 Reading 1

Wolves came from a goal down to beat Reading 2-1 in their play-off semi-final, first leg here on Saturday.

Nicky Forster had given the Royals a half-time lead but late strikes by Shaun Newton and Lee Naylor gave Wolves the edge going into the second leg. Forster met a Nick Shorey cross from the left at the back post to put Reading ahead mid-way through the opening period.

The lead lasted until 15 minutes from the end, when Newton equalised to set up a closing onslaught from the home side.

The pressure paid off in the 83rd minute when Paul Ince was pulled down on the edge of the area after a trademark surging run.

Naylor stepped up and blasted the free-kick low into the net.

The winner of the two-leg tie will play either Sheffield United or Nottingham Forest in a one-off play-off for promotion to the Premiership.
