THE TRIAL of a man charged with causing the death by dangerous driving of a young journalist, and attempting to pervert the course of justice, has heard he approached a witness outside an earlier court hearing and said: “It’s in your statement – don’t pass. As an old buddy, an old workmate, don’t let me go down.”

Eamonn Cassidy of Mullaghmore Drive, Omagh, is on trial in relation to the death of 24-year-old Donna Ferguson. Ms Ferguson was studying for a Master’s in journalism at the National University of Ireland, Galway. She was killed in a collision with the minibus Mr Cassidy was driving when on her way to work in an Omagh radio station on the morning of December 6th, 2006.

Kevin Myers, a passenger in the minibus, gave evidence of being approached by Kevin Barry McDermott of Arvalee Rd, Omagh, outside the earlier court. Both defendants are denying the charges. The trial is continuing.
