On Friday, the autumn/winter season at the Cork Opera House was launched in the Halfmoon Theatre. The Halfmoon has been so recently refurbished that it hasn't itself been officially launched yet. The chairman of the Opera House, Charlie Hennessy, said the few words and gave details on what the denizens of Cork can look forward to seeing in the coming months.

Me And My Girl, which has just finished a seven-year run in London's West End, opens on August 19th. Cast members Eileen Page and David Streames were there to check out their new stomping ground.

Other shows in the offing are a stage adaption of Dickens's Hard Times and the Red Hot comedy festival. Performers lined up for this are Dylan Moran, Ben Elton, Ardal O'Hanlon, Tommy Tiernan, and Paul Merton.

Joe Dolan dropped in at the Halfmoon on his way to a performance at the Rochestown Hotel. Back from sussing out the Galway Film Fleadh was Mick Hannigan, director of the Cork Film Festival. Stephen Boyd of Corcadorca was also present, gearing up to bring Enda Walsh's hit play, Disco Pigs to the Edinburgh Festival.
