Windsurfer is rescued off Clare

A windsurfer had to be rescued when he got into difficulties off the Co Clare coast yesterday afternoon

A windsurfer had to be rescued when he got into difficulties off the Co Clare coast yesterday afternoon. Lahinch Sea Rescue went to assist the surfer ashore after he got into difficulties in Liscannor Bay. He was treated for mild hypothermia.

The same rescue team was also called to assist a pleasure cruiser in Liscannor Bay when it got into difficulties with three people on board at about 5 p.m. A local fishing vessel, The Liscannor Lass, brought the pleasure craft ashore.

The Irish Marine Emergency Service helicopter based at Shannon completed a medical evacuation from a Spanish fishing vessel 135 miles west of the Blasket Islands at 6 p.m. yesterday when a crew member was injured in an accident on board the Farpesca Quinto. The injured man was taken to Limerick Regional Hospital.

A crew member from a Spanish trawler is undergoing treatment for a leg injury at Galway University Hospital. He was taken from the trawler by the Aran Islands lifeboat and brought ashore at Rossaveel.
