A US-based provider of internet services is seeking to set aside a judgment obtained against it by a solicitor who claimed he was defamed on the rate-your-solicitor.comwebsite, which no longer functions.

Co Sligo-based solicitor Damien Tansey secured orders last January against Dotster Inc, a US-based firm, which he alleged provided internet services to those hosting the website and two individuals – John Gill and Ann Vogelaar – whom he claimed were running and operating the site.

In the High Court yesterday, Cian Ferriter SC, for Dotster, said his client would seek to bring a motion aimed at having the judgment against it set aside.

Richard Humphreys SC, for Mr Tansey, said his client would be “strenuously resisting” Dotster’s application to set aside the judgment. Mr Justice Michael Peart adjourned the case to April when the new legal term gets under way.
