. Sean Hughes: "He told the truth in a way I always shied away from. He made you embarrassed doing comedy about cats and dogs. Hicks had more guts and balls than me. He was way ahead of his time. It's stupid saying that everyone should be influenced by him but in stand-up maybe they should. I think a lot of bad comedians have ripped him off."

. Ardal O'Hanlon: "He made a profound difference to my life. I'm very cynical and distrust "sincerity" of any form but with Bill Hicks it was different, it was very believable. I saw him play in the Tivoli theatre in Dublin in 1992 and I came away dumbstruck. I loved him, he renewed my faith in humankind."

. Eddie Izzard: I saw him first at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 1990 and I fell under his spell. He was doing stuff that had never been done before. He had some very dark images he wanted to explain to people in graphic detail. He would shock people into paying attention. He was brilliant."
