A waste disposal company, its managing director and his wife were fined £9,200 yesterday and ordered to pay £8,456 costs after Dublin District Court heard how almost 25,000 tonnes of rubbish they disposed of could not be accounted for.

Mr Louis Moriarty, his wife, Eileen, and the company of which they are directors, Swalcliffe Ltd, trading as Dublin Waste, admitted failing to comply with a licence granted by the Environmental Protection Agency which permitted the disposal of waste only at Balleally tiphead in north Dublin and at a dump in Kilcullen, Co Kildare.
