Gardaí in Dublin have warned the consumption of two types of drug stolen from the Mater hospital in the last 24 hours could be fatal.

A total of five vials containing two substances - Atropine and Lidocaine - used to revive patients suffering from cardiac arrest were taken during a burglary.

“There is a serious risk if these drugs are injected by any person not suffering from the cardiac condition for which they are intended,” a Garda statement said.

“Medical staff have indicated that the consequences of misuse could be fatal.”
