Ireland has always specialised in not even entertaining the notion of It Girls - rich young ladies whose speciality is being famous for being famous. However, if there were any wannabe It Girls lurking in D4, the Wardrobe fashion show, with all the right labels from the new extended department in Brown Thomas on Wednesday night, would have flushed them out for sure.

Spotted among the rather well-dressed crowd were Michael Heffernan of the Dunnes Stores dynasty, who was accompanied by Siobhan Mahon, the best friend of his girlfriend, Maureen Dolan - Maureen was otherwise occupied modelling in the show. Siobhan's other BF, Sheila Eustace, was also on the catwalk - when Sheila marries stockbroker, Paul Boucher in Dromoland Castle next month, Siobhan will be the bridesmaid.

Joanne Byrne was attracting lots of envious looks with her Mickey Mouse backpack, which she claimed she had got for a dollar. She's madly busy organising the Variety Club's annual clash of the titans - the England vs Ireland celebrity golf tournament in Portmarnock. With Jasper Carrott and Henry Cooper coming over from Britain, and Joe Dolan and Brendan O'Carroll holding up the home flag, it looks set to be a good outing.

Other fash pack folk included designer Cuan Hanley; fashion buyer Suzanne McCambridge; Minima's Helen Kilmartin; Clare McKeon of RTE's Later On 2, and Cathy O'Connor, who also works in RTE.
