Vodafone Pacific is considering selling its own mobile network in a bid to satisfy Australian Competition and Consumer (ACCC) concerns about its proposed purchase of the wireless operations of Cable & Wireless Optus, the Australian Financial Reviewreported.

According to the report, it is believed the ACCC has ruled out a merger of the C&W Optus and Vodafone mobile operations which would create an operator with a 52 Per cent share of the Australian market.

The newspaper also reported that Telecom New Zealand is proceeding with a bid for the C&W Optus assets together with Citibank, with NTT DoCoMo yet to formally commit to a role in any consortium.

The paper said that ACCC guidelines suggest that any merger where the largest four participants have more than 75 per cent of the market would be blocked.
